In an article on the emerging estates of Puglia, Roger Voss writes that on a recent visit to Italy's southern region of Puglia… Those of us who knew the region began writing excitedly about an area that could put together that magic combination of good price and good, sometimes excellent, quality…Wines such as Rivera's Il Falcone (made from Uva di Troia)… were hailed as new Italian masterpieces and slotted into the same category as Super Tuscans, but selling for lower prices-below $20 a bottle."
May 1999 VIP trip a huge success!
The first annual VIP trip conducted by Bedford in May of 1999 was a rousing success. Attending were distributor principals, wine managers, sales associates, and retailers from around the country. Ample time was spent sightseeing and relaxing and the visits to the estates were unforgettable. The Bedford suppliers outdid themselves in order to accommodate the VIP guests and to showcase their facilities, vineyards, and wines. A typical reaction of the participants was this comment by Brad Rubin from Ruby Wines in Massachusetts: "Meeting your suppliers and spending time with you… certainly gives the Bedford portfolio a more personal perspective. Along with being terrific people, you and your suppliers produce outstanding wines… that have a home with Ruby Wines… I will never forget my first trip to Italy. I am glad it as with a supplier I can call a friend".
