The Castelluccio Estate is located in the Modigliana Hills, between the towns of Faenza and Forli', in the Eastern part of Emilia Romagna known simply as "Romagna." This area is very close to the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea and is getting the recognition it deserves in the winemaking community as one of the micro-zones of Sangiovese di Romagna, the only D.O.C. in Italy named after the ubiquitous grape. The "Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia", the most coveted guide in the Italian wine world, wrote in the 2005 issue that it is important to "emphasize the differences in territory (in this area) because we are convinced it is time to (…) start referring to the Sangiovese terroirs of Romagna". It also added "the wines differ from the Tuscan interpretations, but are still top-drawer offerings that have nothing to fear from comparison with their cousins across the Apennines."

One excellent expression of the unusual Modigliana terroir is Castelluccio. The vineyards are located at an altitude ranging between 250 and 400 meters above sea level. The estate has a total extension of about 50 hectares (about 125 acres), of which about 10 hectares (25 acres) are cultivated with vines, 2 (5 acres) with olive trees and the remaining area is divided among woods and buildings.

Back in 1975, in this gorge-dominated area, mainly composed of a compact marl and limestone layer, several micro-zones were identified as ideal grape growing locations. These areas, known as "ronchi" (rocky outcrops found on the mountain side) usually have an extension between 1 and 1.5 hectares (2.5 to 3.5 acres,) and are particularly suitable for the growing of high quality grapes. There are two main grape varieties cultivated at the Castelluccio Estate: Sangiovese and Sauvignon Blanc (in Italy simply known as "Sauvignon".)

This young, but very successful estate already received many "Tre Bicchieri" awards from the "Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia" along with praise and positive reviews from the international press.

The Castelluccio Estate's management is entrusted to Claudio Fiore, an experienced winemaker, and to his wife Veruska, while the well documented expertise of Remigio Bordini and of noted enologist Vittorio Fiore guarantee technical support in the vineyard and cellar respectively.
