Aging cellar
San Gimignano is an enchanting Tuscan town, whose skyline of towers from the Middle Ages make it famous as the "Medieval Manhattan." Riccardo Falchini of the "Casale" estate, located about a mile from the town, is one of the most respected winemakers in the area. The old farmhouse, which has given its name to the immediate district, was at one time a convent inhabited by friars. The estate was converted into a winery in 1964 and the first specialized vineyard was planted by 1968, thanks to Falchini's dedication and seriousness. In 1976, the old sharecropper's cellar was replaced by a new winery, furnished with modern equipment. Over the years, Riccardo has expanded his production to Vin Santo, spumante and red wines. Giacomo Tachis, one of Italy's most famous enologists and creator of Sassicaia, Tignanello and Solaia, consulted the Falchinis for many years and is a personal friend of Riccardo's.

Today, the estate produces the region's finest Vernaccia di San Gimignano as well as top Chianti Colli Senesi and gold medal Sangiovese and Cabernet Super Tuscans. Riccardo Falchini has won innumerable awards and commendations for his wines. He has recently been joined in the management of the firm by his sons, Michael and Christopher.
